Chocolate on the National Curriculum
Chocolate is on the National Curriculum and Chocolate Collective delivers chocolate classes and lessons to schools across the North West, the Midlands, and Yorkshire.
We understand that often, it’s the practical and interactive sessions that can cement theoretical learning, so our School Workshops are the ideal complement to classroom teaching and are a real favourite amongst teachers (and kids funnily enough) for end of term treats.
So, to help all the chocolate loving teachers out there who want to bring Chocolate Collective to their classroom, here are some examples of how our workshops complement the National Curriculum and make lessons fun, interactive and most importantly…extremely tasty!
One for Primary school children, our workshops include a brief history of chocolate from bean to bar. Dating back to ancient Egypt and Aztec times, and remaining prevalent right up to the modern day, we can incorporate some of your chosen historical facts into a fun and interactive workshop that gets children working with chocolate.
Geography
If you’re in the process of teaching your Primary School pupils where chocolate is grown and why it is suited to different climates, we can help you bring the subject to life. Our workshops are flexible and adaptable, so if you want to include a pop quiz in-between our chocolatey activities we can help you incorporate it.
English
We can make Charlie and the Chocolate Factory jump off the page with a themed workshop designed around this classic piece of literature. Primary children get to become Willy Wonka for an afternoon creating weird and wonderful chocolate creations.
Food Technology
Help your Secondary School pupils really understand chocolate with an expert lesion from a professional chocolatier. Following one of our workshops, pupils will learn how to mix, pipe, cut, and shape chocolate as well as creating a delicious chocolate ganache. Important skills for any budding patisserie chef!
Business Studies
Chocolate is a billion-dollar business. But how do you stand out in a chocolatey crowd? Branding of course. We can tailor our chocolate workshops to focus not just on the taste and quality of a product but how it looks and who that would appeal to. A lesson in consumer tastes that can be applied to any product and perfect for a Secondary School Business Studies class.
So, if this has given all you teachers out there some food for thought please get in touch. We run tailor-made chocolate making sessions relevant to children of all ages. We work closely with teachers to ensure their teaching is supported and can do a short question and answer session too. All equipment, supplies and protective clothing are provided, and classes are run within the school timetable to accommodate breaks and lunchtimes. Dairy intolerances or gluten-free diets can be catered for, but our workshops may not be suitable for people who suffer from nut allergies, as ingredients and equipment may have been in contact with nuts.
